Abstract
A pseudo-alloy contg. 30-80 wt.% gold and titanium nitride has high wear-resistance, a lower density than the usual gold alloys, and results in an appreciable saving in gold. Pseudo-alloys, intended for external watch parts, are improved by including >=1 nitride or metal-nitrogen mixt. of formula: M (III) N (where Me is Zr, Hf, V, Nb or Cr). The nitride used may contain 1-100% of the stoichiometric amt. of N in the MN, and TiN may be added and/or a sintering aid, e.g. Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, W, or the borides of Ni or Cr; carbides may be added to increase the hardness. Presintered nitride(s) are pref. used and impregnated with liq. gold.
