Abstract
The brush at the end of a long handle is formed by thin plastic rods assembled on to the handle in two successive layers, the first one, very compact, forming the core concentric to which the second is arranged. Besides being easier to obtain, the plastic material has, in relation to free branches, the advantage of lasting longer, as it is more resistant to water and chemical products. Preferably, the plastic rods may be curly and glued to the handle. The rods are secured by rings and the inner layer may be placed over a sleeve which ensures that the outer layer splays outwardly.
Description

The object of the present invention is a broom of the type used by roadworkers and the brush of which is generally made of birch, heather or broom branches, this brush being attached to a long handle. The brushes of these known brooms have the disadvantage of wearing out quickly. In addition, it is becoming more and more difficult to obtain the branches necessary for their manufacture.
The object of the present invention is to obviate these drawbacks and to obtain a solid broom, which wears little, is insensitive to chemical agents and to water and whose raw material is easy to find.
The broom for the exterior which is the subject of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a brush formed of thin plastic rods, these rods being assembled on said handle in two successive layers, the first one forming the core. of the brush and a second concentric to the first.
The appended drawing represents in a single figure and by way of example an embodiment of a broom according to the invention.
The broom shown comprises a cylindrical wooden handle 1, for example. On this handle is fixed a brush 2 with long fibers formed of thin rods of plastic material and preferably polypropylene.
This brush 2 is formed of two distinct layers 2a and 2b.
The central layer 2a is very tight and forms the core of the brush.
It is fixed to the handle by a first collar 3 and a second collar 4 so that this core is more rigid, provision has been made to give the handle a larger diameter, over a certain length, by means of an attached sleeve 5.
The second outer layer 2b is less tight and is fixed to the handle by two collars 6 and 7.
A third collar 8 prevents too great an expansion of the brush.
The broom handle may, opposite the collars 3 and 6, be slightly thinned so as to prevent any slippage of the brush.
The fibers of the brush will preferably be wavy. They will be, after or during assembly, glued together on the upper part of the brush up to the collar 7 approximately. The glue used will be of the same composition as the fibers in order to make a non-deformable block with the handle.
A broom according to the invention is easy to construct, solid and economical in use.
CLAIM
Outdoor broom having a brush attached to a handle, characterized by the fact that it comprises a brush formed of thin plastic rods, these rods being assembled on said handle in two successive layers, the first more closely for
mant the soul of the brush and a second concentric to the first
miere.
SUB-CLAIMS
1. Broom according to claim, characterized in that the
said rods are polypropylene.
2. Broom according to claim and sub-claim 1,
characterized by the fact that said rods are crimped.
3. Broom according to claim, characterized in that the
said layers are glued opposite the handle.
