Description

Electrically powered motor vehicle with variable speed transmission. As a result of the lack of fuel, it has proven expedient in many cases to convert gasoline vehicles to electric operation. Then an electric motor takes the place of the gasoline engine and an accumulator battery takes the place of the fuel tank. The gearbox remains in place and is still used to adapt the driving speed to the terrain. It is important that the driver can perform the same hand movements and pedal movements with the same effect as possible when using the electric motor as when using gasoline.

To realize this requirement is the purpose of the present invention. Then a compound motor is used and its speed is regulated with the foot-operated shunt field controller in such a way that the shunt field is fully excited when the pedal is released.

In Fig. 1 of the drawing an Ausfüh is shown approximately example for the invention. The electric motor in is connected via the clutch c to the change gear g, wel Ches is switched by means of the hand lever d. The battery b, which feeds the motor m via the switch <I> a </I>, serves as the power source. The motor m has a main current field winding h and a shunt winding e. The latter is regulated by means of the pedal p, by means of which the resistance r is adjusted.

This resistor is connected as a voltage divider (potentiometer), and the voltage for supplying the winding e is tapped by means of the pedal contact. The released pedal p is returned by means of a spring f to the position for direct, resistance-free feeding of the winding e. When the pedal <I> p </I> is fully depressed, only the winding <I> h </I> is effective and the winding e is short-circuited by the contact k.

The mode of operation is as follows: When starting up, there is a full shunt field e, which largely reduces the main current required for starting up. In order to increase the speed, the shunt field is weakened by depressing the pedal p until the main current field h alone acts when the pedal is depressed. In Fig. 2 of the drawing, the speeds ri are shown in curves as a function of the associated torque Md.

Curve 1 shows this characteristic with full shunt excitation, curve 5 the same with pure main current excitation; the other curves 2-4 are some intermediate stages.

If the pedal p is released with the motor m running rapidly, the excitation winding e is applied directly to the battery voltage and fully excited; As a result, the motor is forced to work back on the battery and is thereby automatically braked so that - as in petrol operation - the gearbox can now be switched over at reduced engine speed after the clutch c has been released.

Instead of switching the resistor r as a voltage divider, it could also be used as a series resistor; then the resistance section falls between the last contact. k and the penultimate contact.
