Description
Tooth cleaner and process for its manufacture.
In the treatment of paradentosis, the splinting of loose teeth is currently and probably also in the near future. As successful as the fixed splints have proven to be, they have the disadvantage of making it more difficult to clean the interdental spaces, as these fixed splints make it impossible to floss into the interdental spaces from the outside. Up to now the only possibility of cleaning using a flushing device is laborious and costly.
The present subject matter of the invention takes these circumstances into account and relates to a tooth cleaner which has a flat rod which is covered with fabric at its end used for tooth cleaning.
The method for producing the tooth cleaner is characterized in that it is punched out of strips of elastic material that are partially covered on both sides with a fabric covering.
For example, three embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in the drawing.
The tooth cleaner shown in Fig. 1 has a flat stick made of celluloid about 0.1 millimeter thick. The handle end 1 of the rod is reinforced by several layers of celluloid glued together. The end 2, which serves to clean the teeth and runs into a blunt tip, is covered on both sides with a gauze covering over a length of approximately 20 to 25 millimeters.
The two exemplary embodiments shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 differ from the first exemplary embodiment in that the end of the cellulose stick covered with gauze has perforations 4.
In addition, in FIG. 3 the contour of said end shows indentations and bulges 5 at the edges, which facilitate the cleaning of the interdental spaces.
The manufacturing process for these tooth cleaners consists in gluing narrower gauze strips on both sides of thin celluloid strips by moistening them with acetone, and in addition that the part of the celluloid strip that remains free from the gauze covering is covered with at least one celluloid layer for stiffening. The tooth cleaner is punched out of these strips prepared in this way, the end used for cleaning the teeth having to be in the area of the gauze covering and the end of the handle in the area of the stiffening. If perforations are provided, these can be produced in the same punching process as the external shape of the tooth cleaner.
The gauze covering aims at an increased cleaning effect, with the possibility of using it at the same time as a carrier for antiseptic liquids (mouthwash) and toothpaste. The perforations at the end of the stick also serve the same purpose, on the one hand providing small drops of oil and water and on the other hand facilitating cleaning of the toe spaces.
The sticks that make up the tooth cleaner can consist of another elastic material instead of celluloid, and another material covering can also be used.
Fine notches can also be provided on the outline of the end of the rod used for cleaning the teeth, possibly in addition to the indentations and bulges mentioned.
