Description

Hut.

Cap. The subject of the present invention is a hat which is characterized in that it consists of braids sewn together from such a material that gives the hat the appearance of a felt hat.

The materials used or to be used for the borders are, for example, hemp, cotton, rayon and wool; it is also possible to use borders which have several of the materials mentioned above.

The hat according to the invention can be produced, for example, as follows: The loosely braided, i.e. porous, braids are attached to each other or on top of each other, similar to the already known straw hat, by means of a zigzag, undercut and overhead stitch and a similar sewing machine, starting in the middle of the head, sewn to the hat. Then the same is finished with gelatine or shellac, pressed and then painted or sprayed with collodion varnish, the fibers of the material from which the braids are braided being impregnated while the openings in the loosely braided braids remain open that the impregnated hat remains porous.

The hat can also be stiffened with just collodion varnish. This lacquer forms a film on the fibers of the material that make up the braids, which prevents moisture from penetrating the material. This guarantees that the hat will keep its shape.

The production of a hat according to the inven tion can also be done as follows: As mentioned above, the braids are sewn into a stump, also called "cloches", then pre-finished with the finishing materials already specified while drawing and pressing to the final shape. After the hat has been given its shape, it is painted or sprayed with collodion varnish, which impregnates the fibers of the braids.

These two methods can be used to produce all hat shapes, but in particular shapes similar to felt hats.
