BLUETOOTH MUSIC EXCHANGE SYSTEM

The invention provides a method for users to exchange music information between mobile devices over a Bluetooth connection.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The Bluetooth Music Exchange System was developed for use on mobile devices, such as PDAs and Smartphones, which are used to record and play audio data. The invention includes a common data format and client/server components that allow users to discover and exchange music information with other users of the same system.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The invention relies on the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP) for communications. The device advertises an SPP service named "XMIPORT" registed in the Bluetooth service database. A device that wishes to publish music must be in Bluetooth "Discovery" mode.
An XML data format is used to encode:

- a user preferences (genre, favourite artists, blog URL and "about me" text) and identification information (phone number, address, gender, favourite locations, etc.), - the location and type of device being used, - music track attributes (artist, title album, recording label, tagged location, rating, etc.) and playlist information - related URLs and - application data A device can act as a client, server or both.
