Abstract
A door cover for removable vehicle door. The invention provides a protective cover to help prevent damage to vehicle door which often occurs when door is removed and stored when not in use. The cover fits completely over the vehicle door and is secured in place. The securing mechanism is further characterized in the manner in which its claims are described. Once the cover has been fitted and secured, then the door can be removed from the vehicle in its entirety for storage.
Description
DOOR COVER FOR REMOVABLE VEHICLE DOOR
The invention relates to a cover that can be used on a removable vehiGe door which provides an easy way to remove and store the door when not in use.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The cover is comprised of two rectangular panels; equal in size, that have been stitched together to form a pocket like container for the removable vehicle door to be placed therein.
The panels are open on one side, as described further in the claims, which enables one to slide the cover completely over the removable vehicle door prior to its removal. The front panel and the back panel are then secured together by a fastening mechanism which is permanently stitched on each panel for maintaining the closed position. As described further in the claims, the cover could include two handles which are conveniently located at the top or left of the cover to allow for easier handling when removing the door from the vehicle.
The object of the invention is to provide a cover made of a durable construction material to help prevent damage sustained to the vehicle door while removing the door from the vehicle frame.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cover made of a durable construction material to help prevent damage to the vehicle door during storage until the door is affixed to the vehicle frame.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cover of the types described in the claims which can be fitted over doors of various sizes and shapes.
The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims to form a part of this disclosure.
For better understanding of the invention, references should be made to the drawings and to the descriptive matter in which they are illustrated and described in the embodiments of the invention.

Fig. 7 is a back view similar to Fig. 6 illustrating a modification; and Fig. 8 is a sectional view of Fig. 6, showing the location of the foam strip.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
As illustrated in Fig. 1, the cover 1 is comprised of one front panel 2 and one back panel 3, rectangular in shape, stitched together on three out of four sides;
particularly top 4-1, bottom 4-2, and left 4-3 to form a pocket like container for the vehicle door 6 to fit therein.
When you want to remove the vehicle door 6 from the vehicle frame 7, you slide the cover 1 over vehicle door 6 towards vehicle frame 7, as seen in Fig.2. Once the cover 1 is completely over the vehicle door 6, you can insert a foam strip 15 on the inside of the cover, at the bottom 18, as seen in Fig. 8, which the vehicle door 6 will rest on. Once cover 1 has been fitted over the vehicle door 6, with or without the foam strip 15 in place, the cover 1 can be secured in place using a fastening means 5,10,11,12 and shown in Fig.
