Abstract

Abstract of the Disclosure A package for a foodstuff has an outer container and an inner container inside the outer container and formed with at least one recess adapted to hold the foodstuff. The inner container is formed at least in regions where it contacts the foodstuff of an edible material. Thus with this package the material of the inner container cannot contaminate the foodstuff since it is itself made of a foodstuff. Furthermore the material of the inner container is wholly biodegradable, posing no signif-icant pollution or disposal problem. The inner container is provided with reinforcement also made of an edible material. In addition the inner container is formed of a pressed, baked, and/or dry material.

PACKAGE FOR FOODSTUFF

SPECI~IÇ~IO~

Fie~d o~_~hÇL~ LQa The present invention relates to a pack~ge. More particularly this invention concerns a pacXage used for contain-ing an edible foodstuf~.

BacXground o~..the InYention A standard package ~or a ~oodstuf~, ~or instance chocolate candies, has ~n outer container ~ormed of a box or bag ~ade of a suitable cardboard, paper, plastic or metal foil, or : the like, and an lnner container ~ormed with poakets or rece~ses r~ceiving the individual portions o~ the ~oodstu~P.
As a rule ths inner container is made o~ another standard packaging material such as plastic. Typiaally a stif~
plastic insert i~ u~ed that is molded by deep drawing to have the ~ ~ood-holding pockets. Such a paa~age i5 stand~rd ~or marketing ;~ sWeat~ suah a~ aho~ola~e~ all pa8t~1a5, and other ~rms o~

Obiects o$ ~æ~nveation It is therefore an object of the presen~ invention to provide an i~proved foodstuf~ package.
Another ob;ect is the provision of such an impr~ved foodstu~f package which overcomes the abo~e-given di advantages, that i~ whose inner container does not contaminate the ~oodstuff being contained and a}so doe~ not present an environmental hazard.

container is wholly biodegradable, posing no ~ignificant pollu-tion or di~posal problem.
According to this invention the inner container is provided with reinforcement also made of an edible material. In addition the inner container is formed o~ a pressed, baked, and/or dry material. Such a baked-good ~nner container can be made o~ ~lower with additives ~uch as wafer-like pressed meat, ~pun sugar. It can also be made of a crystal conglomerate and the reinforcement can be added ~or decorative purposes ,also.
In fact the inner container can be m~de so that it is intended to be eaten also. In th~s case natural fibers are used as reinforcement. Such an inner package cannot pos~ibly~contami-nate the foodstu~f ~t i8 holdinq.

speci~ .,pescr.ip~iQ~

- As seen in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 a package ~or a foodstuff indicated in dot-dash lines at F basically comprises an outer container shown partially at 4 in Fig~ 2 and comprised o~ a box or bag and an ~nner container 1 ~ormed with a plurality of pockets 2 each receiving a respective piece of the ~oodskuff F.
According to the invention the inner container 2 is ~ormed of an edible materlal including a ~iber-fle~ce rein~orce-~ent web or m~sh 3. The mat~rial can be a baked and pressed mixture o~ ~lower, egg white, and sugar and the rein~orcement mesh 3 can be formed o~ natural Pibers.
Thus the innsr container 1 can be disposed o~ with no worry about creaking a long-term hazard to tha environment, as it will biodegrade rapidly. Altaxnately lt can even be aaten by the consumer him~el~ or hRrsel~, or used as animal ~ood. Ther~ will be no ~olvent~ or the lika in the inner container 1 that could contaminate or impar~ an unpleasant taste to the, contained 2~ ~o~d~u~
