Description

131~173 TITLE: .~ER~'E ENDING THERAPE~iTICAL DEVICE

The present invention relates to a ner~e ending therapeutical device, and more specifically, to a therapeutical de~ice which utilizes electronic means to 0~ stimulate nerve endings of the human body.
The prior art of this device uses the method of so-called electrical therap~, which applies a high ~-oltage on nerve endlngs of the human body, thereby stimulating internal secretion of the human body so t.hat one's ~igor is restored ancl a therapeutical effect is achieved.
In the con~entional electrical therapy, a current of certain frequency is used. For example, a 60HZ
current is used in treating ordinary s~in diseases.
1~ The magn-itude and frequency of current should be adjusted àccording to the actual situation, e.g. a baby's impedance being lower than an adult's thereiore a lower current should be applied. Electrical probes with proper magnitude and frequency of current are put ~0 on the ner~-e endings of the human body. The polarity of the current applied thereon is chosen based on the principle of supplementing or drawing Istimulation or repression), to neutralize the polarity carried b~ the specified disease. For instance. when treating an 2~ inflammator~ disease, the infected part is in excess of negati~e electric ions and thus should be neutralized with posit.i~e ions, or called "drawing"; whereas it is S~
. ~ ., ; ::
- : ' ' ' .~i 131ql73 called "supplementln~" if applied with ne~ati~e ions.
It is b~ this mode of operation th~t the therapeutical effect is achieved, However, the electrical therapeutical device of 05 prior art has the followin drawbac~s:
1. Since it is onl~ capable of ad.justin~ the ma~nitude and frequenc~- of the current applied. it is necessar~ to use another de~ice to detect the required nerve endings before the therapeutical de~ice can be operated. So it is troublesome in treating and ma~-cause wrong detection of ner~-e endin~s.
It can onl~ pro~-ide a single frequency of current or a continuousl~ ~ar~-ing frequenc~ of current, thus the therapeutical effect is lessened.
3. It onl~- pro~-ides the operation of supplementin~ or the operation of drawin~. h'hen usin~
it to ma~e treatment. it ma~es cause the disease e~en worse if the mode of operation is used ~ron~full~-.
It is one object of the pre~ent invention to ~ provide an improved -therapeutical device which may obviate or reduce one or more of the above mentioned drawback~.
With the foregoing and other objects in ~iew. this in~-ention in one aspect resides broadl~- in a nerve ending therapeutical de~-ice comprisin~:
a tec-ting circuit, and an oscillatin~ circuit. a handle and a probe~ wherein said testing circuit is an audio oscillatin~ circuit which is connected with a ~`

1 31 q 1 73 spea~er and an illuminator such that said spea~er and illuminator sound and twin~le respectivel~ when said testin~ circuit is activated, said testin~ circuit being connected hith a metal part of said handle ~ia a Q5 variable resistor;
a power supply bein~ connected to said oscillating circuit and a normall~-closed contact of a switch of said probe separately. a middle contact of said switch being connected to a metal part of said probe in addition to being connected to an output of said testing circuit via said illuminator; a normall~- open contact of said switch bein~ connected to an output of - said oscillating circuit:
said oscillating circuit includin~ a positive .eedbacl;
1~ circuit with a variable resistor for adjusting output frequenc~ and a boosting transformer. outputs of said transformer being coupled to said handle and said sh-itch of said probe respectivel~ whereby b~ means of switehing said switch of said probe to said normally-closed contaet, the location of a nerve ending ean befound~ and then said switch is set to said normall~-open contact.

131ql73 In order that this invention ma~ be more readil~
understood and put into practical effect, reference will no~ be made to the accompan~ing drawin~s which ~ strAte typical embodiments of the present 05 in~ention, and wherein:-Fig. 1 is a perspecti~e ~iew of a r,er~e endingtherapeutical de~ice in accordance with the present invention:
Fig. 2 is a circuit diagram of the ner~e endin therapeutical de~ice in accordance with the present in~ention.
Referrin to Fig. 1. it can be seen that this in~ention consists of an encasement 3, a handle , connected to an output terminal 31 and a probe 2. The encasement 3 contains an oscillatin~ circuit necessar~-for the therapy. A power switch 32 with a neon lamp 33 abo~e the power switch 32 to indicate the on-off state of the power and the wor~ing condition of the oscillating circuit. Three adjusting knobs 34, 35 and 36 are also arran~ed on the front face of the encasement 3 to control current magnitude. output frequenc~ and testing sensiti~-it~:. respecti~-el~. In addition, a control switch 3l is disposed which is used to set the output signal to be as one of three modes r~

"supplement", "draw" or "automatic". The output terminal 31 has two output points which are connected to the probe 2 and handle 1 respecti~ely. The handle 1 can be grasped b~ one's hand, and the probe 2 is 05 disposed a switch 21 and an ill~minator 22. The switch 21 can be switched to choose either to test nerve (TEST
position) endings or to be ~Ised therapeuticall~
(THERAP~ position). At the end of the probe 2 there is a tip 23 which can be pressed on the skin of the human bod for therapeutical purposes.
To use this in~ention. the switch 21 of the probe 2 is set to the testing position, then the tip 23 is pressed upon around the area where the nerve ending should be found. The probe 2 is moved around to find 1~ the e~act -location is touched, the illuminator h-ill twin~le indicating the ner~-e ending has been found.
The the switch 21 can be switched to the T~ERAP~' position and the oscillatin~ circuit inside the encasement 3 sends a signal out of the tip 23 of the probe 2. The sensiti~ity adjustment 3~ is to be adjusted according to the resistance of the human bod~
being treated. Thus, it can be seen that this in~ention has combined the testing and therapeutical functions instead of ha~ing to use two 2~ different machines to achie~e the same purpose.
Furthermore. this in~ention pro~ides an induction-t~-pe therapeutical de~ice. B~- attaching the probe 2 to i~ ~.

` ' 131ql73 ~ ner~e endin~ of the human body t~hile ~rasping the handle 1 with one's hand. the electrical signal is transmitted through the human body b~ wa~ of the probe 2 and returns to the oscillating circuit within the Oa encasement 3 via the handle 1. Thus this invention provides a device which has therapeutical effects similar to those which acupuncture offers but does not require the use of a r~eedle to hurt the person bein~
treated.
Now referring to Fig. 2, it is shown that the circuit diagram contains mainly a testing circuit 4 and a boosting oscillating circuit a. The testing circuit 4 comprises: transistors 41, 42; capacitors 46, 47; a speaker ~4 and an e~ternal illuminator light emitting la diode 22 forming a positive feedback circuit. The spea~er 44 emits a certain frequenc~- of sound and the illuminator light emitting diode 22 twin~les upon actuation, thereby providing audio and video effects to locate the desired nerve ending-. The triggerin~
~O function is provided b~- the base of transistor 41 and a variable resistor of the adjustin~ ~nob-34 and the metal part of the handle 1. A dry batter~- power supply 43 is connected to two branches via a power switch 32.
One of the branches is connected to the oscillating 2~ circuit a. The other branch is connected to the tip 23 of the probe 2 and the "~" terminal of the output terminals 31 b~- way of a three-contact shitch 21 of the probe 2. When the three-contact switch 21 is set to its normal-closed contact as tlle figure indicates, the impedance of an object between the probe tip 23 and the handle 1 determine if the testing circuit will function~ Since the impedance of nerve ends is lower 05 than other parts of the human body, the speaker will sound and the light emitting diode will illuminate when the probe 2 touches the e.~act location o~ a nerve ending. After the nerve ending has been found, the three-contact switch 21 can be switched to the therapy position to for therapeutical purposes.
A D.C. ~oltage from the power supply is applied into the oscillating clrcuit 5. A transistor 51, capacitors 52. 53, 54 and a boosting transformer 56 form a positi~e feedbac~ circuit and output oscillating 1~ signals. The oscillating signal is boosted b~ the boosting transformer 56 and the freguency of said signal is determined b~ adjusting the variable resistor 3~, ranging from 0 - 60 HZ. Further, the waveform of the output oscillating signal is composed of t-;o frequencies, one part of the waveform being in a certain frequenc~ and the other part thereof being in another frequenc~. Thus, instead of treating onl~ one disease at a certain time in the usual situation of using the prior art, this invention provides the capability of treating two diseases at the same time.
A neon lamp illuminator 33 is shunt with the output coil of the boosting transformer 56~ indicating 1 31 ~ 1 73 the oscillating circuit is normal. One end of the output coil of the boosting transformer is further connected to the handle 1 via a variable resistor 36, and the other end of the same is coupled to the switch 05 21 of the probe 2 by way of a direct-current blocking capacitor 55 and a supplementing and draining control circuit. When the switch 21 is switched to the position connecting the tip 23 to the output coil of the transformer 56. the tip 23 will send an electrical signal which can make the electron distribution of the circulation system of the human body achieve equilibrium and stimulate the internal secretion thereby pro~-iding therapeutical effects.
~s to the- supplementing and dra~ing control circuit, it is fundamentall~- a clamping circuit composing two diodes ~7, 58 and a control s~itch 37.
The control switch 37 has three contac~s. When the control switch 37 is at the left position and therefore connects with the diode 57, the negative portion of the output signal is clamped and onl~ the positive portion of the signal is output, then the invention is in "drah-" mode. If the control switch 37 is set to the right position, and only the negative portion of the signal is output, then the invention is "supplement"
mode.
It is worth mentioning that if the disease bein~
treated cannot be distinguished, then the control switch 37 can be set at the middle position thereb~

achieving ~he supplementing and drahing function simultaneousl~.
Moreover, the power suppl~- of khis invention is provided by a dry battery thus a~oiding the non- -0~ portability and danger of leakage of the conventionalprior art.
