Abstract

Coded light was proposed to enable advanced control of light sources and transmit information using light sources. It relies on invisibly embedding data and identifiers in its light output. Methods, devices and systems configured for efficiently assigning addresses in an encoded lighting system, while still allowing unique identification, are proposed. More specifically, address assignment takes place in two phases where initial phase wide area unique addresses are used while in the second phase only local area unique addresses are used. Furthermore, methods, devices and systems configured to efficiently distribute a set of addresses across a set of light sources in this second phase, to maximize the performance of lighting contribution estimation and placement are disclosed.
