Abstract

cartucho de tinta histórico da invenção tentativas anteriores foram feitas para prover aos consumidores a condição de ver a quantidade remanescente de tinta no cartucho de tinta de uma impressora de jato de tinta, e, ademais, também vem se tentando fabricar e implementar um mecanismo detector de tinta confiável, que informe aos consumidores a quantidade de tinta remanescente no cartucho de tinta via tela do computador ou através de sinais elétricos enviados à impressora de jato de tinta. tentativas anteriores foram feitas para utilizar feixes de luz refletidos ou refratados por prismas como meios detectáveis eletricamente ou visíveis pelos consumidores para detectar/ observar o nível de tinta. adicionalmente, uma estrutura prismática foi adicionada ao cartucho para permitir detecção/ observação do nível de tinta. o principio óptico "reflexão interna total" (tir) é relevante para esta discussão com respeito a feixes de luz e prismas. o tir ocorre quando um raio de luz interno atinge um segmento interno em um ângulo maior que um certo ângulo cri ti co com respeito à normal ao feixe de luz e segmento interno. se o feixe de luz atinge o segmento prismático em um ângulo igual ou maior que este certo ângulo critico, e se o índice de refração for menor fora que dentro do prisma, quando o prisma é circundado de ar, nenhuma luz que siga um ângulo igual ou maior que o ângulo critico sai do prisma, em qual situação, toda a luz é refletida no prisma. para os materiais a partir dos quais os prismas usualmente são feitos (vidro, materiais poliméricos), o ângulo critico varia geralmente entre 40° e 50°. tentativas anteriores que usaram luz e prismas em cartuchos para produzir sinais de luz legíveis relacionados ao ni vel de tinta no cartucho produziram sinais indistintos para detecção quer visual ou elétrica. sinais liga-desliga geralmente não foram apreciáveis.
