Abstract

When one or more of the sensors detects an abnormal condition (eg smoke, fire, water etc.), the sensor communicates with the base unit (112) and provides data regarding the abnormal condition. The base unit 112 may contact a supervisor or other responsible person through a plurality of techniques such as telephone, pager, mobile phone, Internet, etc. In one embodiment, one or more wireless repeaters (110-111) are used between the sensors and the base unit (112) to extend the system range (100) and allow the base unit (112) to communicate with a larger number. of sensors.
