The rim includes an inner tire rim seat retaining flange, an inner tire rim seat, a shaft that generally extends axially and an outer tire rim seat surface. The disc (42) includes a centrally located wheel mounting flange and an outer annular portion, which defines an external tire rim seat retaining flange of the vehicle wheel and is located entirely outside a plane defined by the retaining flange internal tire rim seat. The inner tire rim seat (38) is provided with a radially inward facing flange having a generally inclined radially inward surface, a radially extending surface and an axially extending surface. When the flange facing the rim is positioned against an adjacent inner surface of the disc, a recess is formed between the inwardly sloping surface of the inward-facing flange and the inner surface of the disc and a weld area is formed between the surface that extends axially from the inward facing flange and the inner surface of the disc. The recess (58) defines a groove for receiving a first weld (60) and the welding area defines an area for receiving a second weld (62). The welds cooperate to join the rim (30) and the disc together and produce the one-sided vehicle wheel.
