Label assemblies without a pressure sensitive adhesive liner having a base layer and a release layer capable of being separated from each other after the label is applied to a surface, thereby leaving one portion of the assembly on the surface and removing the other portion. In one embodiment, the base layer is an ethylene / acrylic acid copolymer and the release layer is polyvinyl acetate. In another embodiment, the base layer is a polyethylene emulsion and the release layer is a polyurethane emulsion. In a third embodiment, the base layer is a composition of a UV curable epoxy A bisphenol oligometer, pentaerythritol triacrylate, and a monofunctional styrene monometer, and the release layer is polyvinyl acetate.
