CO~ 2~ contido em baixa concentração no gás de exaustão liberado durante a fermentação do ácido L-glutâmico é capturado na forma de carbonato de álcali por borbulhamento em solução aquosa de carbonato de sódio ou em solução aquosa de hidróxido de sódio, e então incorporado no processo de produção do ácido L-glutâmico em que um álcali é requerido como agente neutralizador; assim, não só sal monoalcalino de ácido L-glutâmico pode ser preparado, mas também o CO~ 2~ formado como subproduto pode ser recuperado em uma alta concentração, de modo que possa ser utilizado como fonte de CO~ 2~ líquido."PROCESS FOR RECOVERING CARBON DIOXIDE IN A L-GLUTAMIC ACID FERMENTATION".
