A transparent oxygen elimination article for packaging oxygen-sensitive products, such as beer, juice, quetchup, etc. The oxygen scavenging article includes biaxially oriented aromatic polyether polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), and an aromatic oxygen scavenging polymer compatible with the polyether polymer. The oxygen scavenging polymer includes aromatic groups and alpha-hydrogen carbonyl groups of formula (I) Examples are succinic, glutaric, adipic or subteric polyesters with hydroquinone, bisphenol A, styrene oxide or di-styrene glycol or an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid copolyethylene naphthalate. Both polymers can form a copolymer, a combination or preferably different layers of the article. The oxygen scavenging polymer can be incorporated into a barrier pack at a competitive price, and provides the desired properties of transparency, thermal resistance, and pressurized resistance.
