Abstract

De acordo com os princípios desta invenção, fluxos de sinais de Modulação de Código de Pulso (PCM) são convertidos em células de Modo de Transferência Assíncrona (ATM) para comutar e transmitir através de uma rede de telecomunicações. Cada célula carrega uma amostra PCM de até 48 conexões de voz diferentes, as conexões de voz selecionadas a partir dos fluxos de dados PCM porque as mesmas têm um destino comum. As células são transmitidas através de circuitos virtuais ATM, cada circuito transmitindo uma célula a cada 125 <109>s, os sistemas de transmissão ATM interfaceiam com sistemas PCM sem adicionar retardamento considerável e sem exigir armazenamento temporário adicional. Vantajosamente, novas trajetórias de voz podem ser estabelecidas a maior parte do tempo mediante uso de espaços disponíveis nas células das trajetórias virtuais existentes. Esta invenção também pode ser utilizada para implementar um sistema de comutação grande ou um grupo de sistemas menores altamente interconectados.
