O processo de eliminação de um metal solúvel da invenção compreende as seguintes etapas empregadas continuamente: a) obter efluentes básicos que contenham o metal; b)adicionar um ácido forte aos efluentes básicos até a obtenção de um pH de um valor compreendido entre 0 e 4; c)manter o pH neste valor; d)adicionar um complexante para precipitar o metal monitorando o desenrolar da reação de precipitação e deixar decantar a solução resultante; e e)filtrar a solução para recuperar, por um lado, lamas ácidas contendo o metal precipitado e por outro lado, um filtrado com teor reduzido em metal.
