Abstract

The method is applicable in metal founding and ferrous metallurgy for nitriding liquid steel in a steel-pouring ladle. It increases the nitrogen utilisation rate and saves in power and fireproof materials. The nitriding is carried out by blowing nitrogen through a pipe immersed in the molten metal. Meanwhile the steel is oxidised with aluminium wire, which is immersed in the molten metal through the nitrogen supply pipe. The nitrogen pressure is 0.1-0.7 MPa at a consumption rate of 0.6-2.0 m<3>/t.
