Abstract

The capstan is used for winding and unwinding of oblong materials (K), such as wire, cable or other similar, on a drum. Drum (13) includes a rest (12) with facilities for driving (25) on a spreading arm (10). Arm (10) is mounted with a facility for revolving over the rest (12) and supports the gripping arm (14) for winding/unwidning the oblong materials on the fixed drum (13). The gripping arm (14) is fabricated in the form of a V-shaped curved profile having a mobile caterpillar chain provided for the oblong materials (K), this mobile chain being orientated opposite the drum (13). The mobile chain is made of feeding rollers mounted in arm (14). The feeding rollers are spherical in shape and form resistance in rolling equal practically to zero, and this eliminates any warping of materials (K) during the winding/unwinding. The capstan also includes at least one arm for revolving the drum (31, 31') which arm is connected to rest (12) in order to retract or move away the drum from the rest. 14 claims, 5 figures
