Afin d'accélérer le processus de biodégradation d'huiles minérales polluant les eaux de mers par les micro-organismes marins, on utilise comme agent nutritif pour ces micro-organismes, une acylguanidine de formule I où R est un radical d'hydrocarbure aliphatique contenant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone.
