Abstract

Blinds and curtains are fitted between the panes of a double glazed window, and are operated by direct mechanical or magnetic coupling installed in or around the glass area. This provides a reduction in room space, lost to window fittings and in protection from dirt for the window coverings. The blinds may be of the slatted type, either vertical or horizontal, or of the roller type. Conventional fabric curtains may also be used. In each case, a suitable operating fitting is installed. Slatted blinds can be operated by a gear mechanism with a knob on the roomside of the glass. Alternatively, a magnetic coupling may be used to operate the mechanism between the panes. The coupling is provided by three electromagnets oriented at 0,90 and 180 degrees w.r.t. a given reference.
