Abstract

Tablets are packed in discontinuous pockets formed at certain distances from each other between two continuous strips of packing material; the individual pockets are formed by hot welding. In the new packing the tablets are essentially rectangular in shape and so made that they can be received into a pocket which is smaller than that required hitherto for a normal rectangular tablet. The tablet consists of a small platelet obtd. by the compression of a suitable compsn. with a punch in a die of corresponding shape; the two opposite principal faces have a convex form which is partly spherical. Each of the principal faces is delimited by four curved edges connected by rounded corners. The lateral faces have an ellipsoidal form. In the packed assembly, the dimensions of each pocket in the packing material, such as paper, sheet aluminium or regenerated cellulose, are only slightly larger than the tablets because of the convexity of their principal faces; no shapr edges exist which might pierce the walls of the pocket.
