Abstract
Strengthening glass objects, esp, medicine bottles and similar short necked vessels by ion-exchange treatment in fused salt continuously, using a series of baths in sequence, which overflow one into another in reverse direction to the forward movement of the glass articles, by dipping the articles into either the same salt in all the baths or different salts in successive baths. The appts. comprises a pair of tracks and a number of recipients for the glass articles suspended by a rack and pinion from a wheeled trolley running on the tracks. The sequence of movements is timed to obtain full treatment in each bath. The method overcomes the need for separate treatments and repeated replenishing of the salt.
