Abstract

The warps of the canvas comprise a primary yarn having the same mechanical resistance as the weft, and a secondary yarn of substantially lower resistance and twisted around the primary yarn at positions between the wefts, such that the wefts pass between the primary and secondary yarns. The canvas which may be fused to an elastomeric sheet and used as a wear-resistant tyre lining, or as a carpet backing, is dimensionally stable and has the same resistance to tearing in both transverse and longitudinal directions.
