Abstract

Tinctorial composn. for paper consists of a conc. soln. of at least one dyestuff for paper in a solvent medium comprising at least one alkanediol and at least one alkanolamine. It may be used directly for dyeing paper. Suitable alkanediols include ethylene glycol, diethylene elycol, propylene glycol and their monoalkyl ethers in which the alkyl group contains 1-4 C atoms; suitable alkanolamines are mono-, di- and tri-ethanolamine; suitable dyes for paper are water-sol. azo and phthalcoyanine dyes, having good affinity for the cellulose fibres. In an example, paper is dyed a bright yellow colour with a composn. contg. monoethanolamine, monoethylene glycol and an azo dyestuff derived from diazotised dehydrothiotoluidine monosulphonic acid coupled with acetoacetanilide.
