Abstract

The vehicle antitheft device fitted with a steering lock consists in thatthe steering shaft (1) connecting the steering gearbox to the steering wheelhas an incipient fracture (2) intended to cause the fracture of the shaftduring a violent action exerted on the steering wheel.

Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  Anti-theft device for vehicle The present invention relates to the prevention against theft of motor vehicles and relates to an anti-theft device preventing the thief from moving with the vehicle.

  Various anti-theft systems for vehicles are known, most of which are only alarm systems that warn of a break-in but do not prevent the vehicle from moving. Other anti-theft systems consist, for example, of circuit breakers which, after a certain search time by the thief, can be easily put out of service.

  In order to prevent a thief, after breaking the door lock and starting the engine by various cable links, cannot escape with the stolen vehicle and taking into account that most vehicles are equipped with a steering lock, it seemed advantageous to create, according to the invention, an anti-theft device characterized in that the steering part or shaft connecting the steering box to the steering wheel presents a starting point for rupture.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 To better understand the invention, this is now described in more detail on the basis of the appended drawing, by way of example only, representing a steering shaft shaped as follows
 EMI2.1
 The invention. The drawing shows a steering shaft 1 connecting the steering wheel of the vehicle (not shown) to the steering box.

  On the steering shaft 1 is provided a breaking point 2. This breaking point can be produced in various ways, either by changing the section of the shaft, or even by a tapping made on the shaft at L '. place where the rupture should occur.

  When a violent action is exerted on The steering wheel against the steering lock, there will be a rupture of the steering shaft in Place 2, The vehicle will become ungovernable and The thief will be obliged to run away leaving the vehicle.

  An anti-theft device according to the invention has the advantage - in addition to the desired objective which is the immobilization of the vehicle - of being able to be produced at very low cost. Indeed, during the construction of vehicles, it suffices to provide a starting point for failure on their steering shaft.

  Of course, an anti-theft device according to the invention can be produced on any existing vehicle provided with a steering lock.
