Abstract

A stiffener comprises an elastomer elastic element (4) surrounding an elongate body (1) to be stiffened, the said elastic element (4) being rigidly fixed at one end to a mounting fitting (2, 6, 10, 11, 12, 61). A reinforcement (8) in the elastic material (4) extends over a part of the length of the elastic element (4) from the said end, the said reinforcement being secured by the fasteners (7) of the mounting fitting (2, 6, 10, 11, 12, 61).
