Abstract

A fluid-permeable, woven dryer fabric (12) for use in a paper making machine or the like having different permeabilities in different sections (18, 19, 20) across its width to control the moisture profile of a web being conveyed through the dryer section of the paper making machine. Additional cross-machine direction yarns (17) of different thicknesses are located in the dryer fabric (12) at selected positions across the dryer fabric in the cross-machine direction. The additional yarns of different thicknesses are introduced into the dryer fabric at selected positions in the cross-machine direction as part of the weaving process for the dryer fabric.
