Patent Attorney: of P.O.Box 436 39 Cheviot Rd.) Mt.Waverley, Victoria, 3149 Complete Specification for the Invention entitled: MOBILE ADVERTIZING DISPLAY BOARDS The following statement is a full dascriptlon of this invention, Including the best method of performing it known to 'NtterThe descrlpt)n Is to be typed in double spacing, pica type face, In an area not exceeding 250 mm In depth and 160 mm In width, on tough white paper of good quality and it Is to be inserted inside this form.
11710/76-L. TPiU.tMPu. Com m nwe ll otvetnmini PrTInIr.Clnbcrti This invention relates generally to advertising display boards, mobile signs and the like and morv particularly is concerned with a mobile device for supporting and/or carrying advertising display boards.
The invention, according to a general aspect comprises a mobile device for carrying and supporting advertising display boards which comprises a support platform or framework at least initially carried on wheels to a display site, or which is transportable to a display site, the support platform or framework having hingedly mounted thereon display panels which provide a board support for advertising indicia, such as handpainted or written signs or posters thereon and which are adapted to be swung up or horizontally out from the support platform or framework, wherein the device has at S least four large, rectangular display panels and includes a pair of primary panels each with a bottom Ii edge horizontally hingedly connected to and carried longitudinally along a respective side of the support platform or framework and at least one pair of secondary panels each of which has one or inner side edge thereof vertically hingedly connected to a side edge of one of W the primary panels, the secondary panels each being adapted to be swung out in a horizontal &rc away from an external or outward-facing surface of a primary panel into a display position and then towards and against the surface of a primary panel in a transport position.
a V( -2ii R*rgbC According to a further alternative arrangement of the invention, primary panels may be horizontally hinged at the bottom of each side of the support platform or framework, secondary panels vertically hinged by an end or each end thereof to a respective end of the primary panels, tertiary panels vertically hinged to the secondary panels for swinging in a horizontal arc and quaternary panels hinged to the primary panels for swinging in a vertical arc to a position above the primary panels.
If desired, panels may have universal hinges for swinging more than one plane.
In a modification of the invention, the panels can be mounted upon a platform which is carried upon a trailer and then removed and left permanentlyon site with the wheels intact or removed, or with steel posts embedded in concrete in the ground.
A practical arrangement of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mobile ,t advertising sign display board trailer constructed in accordance with the invention and in on-site display position.
fa l i!5 Figure 2 is an end view of the trailer of Figure 1, in folded-up road transport position.
Referring to the drawings and to Figure 1 in 4 particular, there is shown a portable advertising display stand, preferably in the form of an open-framed, low loader drop trailer 10, provided with two pairs of rectangular advertising board display panels, constructed as steel sheet panels and comprising a pair of primary disploy panels 11, 12, each pivotally fixed at the lower longitudinal edge to a frame member along each longitudinal edge or side thereof 13, 14 of the trailer by horizontally mounted static hinges thereby forming primary static hinge points to enable these panels to be -3i swung up and raised to a vertical position and lowered or tilted inwards with the upper edges in contact or close proximity to form a triangular pyrimidal structure with respect to the trailer frame, when the panels are 1n i folded-up transport position.
In one arrangement, the front elge each primary panel 11, 12Primary panel 11, 12 is vertically hinged to a rear edge of a secondary panel, such as the rearwardly swinging postion panels 15, 16, or in the alternative forwardly swinging position panels 17, 18 from either side the trailer.
In another alternative panel arrangement, C( instead of the primary panels 10, 11 being horizontally, hingedly connected to the side of the trailer by their bottom edges, they may be vertically hinged at a lower thereof in a substitute "secondary panel swinging t position" to swing in and out in a horizontal arc from the trailer and the secondary panels may then be vertically hinged to the outer edges of the "secondary ,20 position" primary panels to form a tertiary position t S panels 19, 20 which also swing in and out from the trailer in horizontal arcs. Both primary and secondary panels can then be swunj in any position over 180° OR t gt 190° or 360° for all four panels with respect to the longitudinal axis of the trailer.
In yet another alternative arrangement which R tt I will be termed "quaternary panel position" arrangement for clarity and convenience, the primary panels remain in a primary fixed, horizontal hinge position along tht side of the trailer and the secondary panels are horizontally or universally hinged to an upper corner of the primary panels to swing up into a position above the primary panels, as designated 21. The four panels can be stored on the trailer with secondary panels stored against external surfaces of the primary panels.
-4- If the vertical height of the panels, when in erected or upright position above the trailer is above that allowed by Transport Regulation, then the panels can be inwardly inclined towards each other by means of a winding mechanism with geared worm thread 22 and handle on an upright frame 23, as shown in Figure 2.
When primary and secondary panels are both swung out from the trailer, it may be necessary and advisable to support the lower edges thereof on stabilizing jacks because of weight and wind factors, as the combined length may be 52 metres.
