Description
COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRi 8 2 9 Patents Act 1952 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION (Original) FOR OFFICE USE Application Number: Lodged: Class Int. Class Complete Specification Lodged: Accepted: Published: Priority: This document contains the amendments made under Section 49 and'is correct for printing.
6e Related Art: p.
Name of Applicant: rxLJ Address of Applicant: 8 Mountain Road, Epsom, Auckland, Zealand New Actual Inventor: William Edgar Anderson Address for Service:- Wray Associates Primary Industry House 239 Adelaide Terrace Perth Western Australia 6000.
Complete Specification for the invention entitled: "Improvements in or Relating to Files" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- 1 1_ i -2- THIS INVENTION relates to files in the form of folders conventionally manufactured from cardboard or similar material.
An object of this invention is to provide a file incorporating an internal pocket to facilitate storage of matter in the file. More particularly an object of this invention is to provide such a file which is economical to manufacture.
A further object of this invention is to provide such a file incorporating distinct zones to receive identifying insignia. More particularly the file is designed for such that it is suitable for utilisation within various storage arrangements such as conventional filing drawers or f radially on a rotatable shelf.
According to a first aspect of this invention there is provided a file comprising a unitary body having a front cover and a rear cover joined by a spine defining foldline, an end flap articulated to a first of the covers to be foldable along a corresponding delineating foldline therebetween to extend inwardly across a section of an SU inner face of the first cover, the first cover at an edge thereof disposed normal to the spine extending beyond the line of the associated edge of the second cover and incorporating a foldline therein spaced outwardly of the 25 said line of the edge of the second cover to define a bottom flap therebeyond which extends for substantially the full width of the associated edge of the first cover, the bottom flap being articulated along that foldlie to be foldable thereabout to extend inwardly to overlap with at least part of the folded in end flap and be attached thereto whereby the flaps combine to form a pocket.
According to a further aspect of this invention there is ^rrlrruuu~i~uswr -3 provided a file as described in the preceding paragraph wherein the end edge of one of the covers incorporates a projecting section.
The foregoing summary, as well as the following detailed description of the presently preferred embodiment of the invention, will better be understood when read in conjunction with the appended drawings, it being understood, however, that this invention is not limited to the precise arrangements illustrated.
a o* 10 In the drawings:e"o' Figure 1 is a view of the file as formed in the flat; SFigure 2 is a view of the interior of the file with C end and bottom flaps folded inwardly to form 0 0 an internal pocket; and Figure 3 is a view of the completely folded file, as seen from the front.
Referring to the drawings, wherein like numerals indicate .like elements throughout the three views, it can be seen that the present invention in one presently presented o 20 embodiment provides for a pocket file integrally formed from a single sheet of appropriate .4 xS I7 T A 1 A
I'
4 G- 1 cardboard or similar conventional file forming material As is conventional, the file 10 is sized to meet appropriate paper size standards, for example foolscap or A4.
The file 10 is designed to be manufactured by known apparatus and in particular to be so manufactured in an economical manner, as it need only be formed from a single such sheet.
ft #1 If A spine forming fold 11 is provided centrally of the 10 file to thereby form a first or front cover 12 and a second or rear cover 13 conjoined by the spine fold 11.
It would be appreciated that the spine fold 11 may be of a multiple nature.
For example, two (ll,lla) or three adjacently spaced apart folds may be provided to form one or two r gussets 14 therebetween, and to allow a multiplicity of papers to be readily stored within the file I l 'As seen in Figure 1 and when considered in the flat, an I~ttt end flap 15 is provided to extend from an end edge 16 of one of the first or second covers, though in the preferred form, the end edge 16 extends from the front cover 12.
J
-IlliFlliUI- i L The end flap 15 extends for about half of the width of the end edge 16 of the cover 12 and is disposed to one side hereinafter for convenience, referred to as the bottom 17 of the file A fold line 18 is formed between the cover 12 and the end flap 15 whereby the end flap 15 can be folded inwardly across the inner face of the front cover 12 as shown in Figure 2.
The end flap 15 extends substantially fully across the 1° 0 face of the cover 12 such that with folding, the distal edge 15a of the end flap 15 is disposed adjacent to the o spine fold 11ii.
A bottom flap 19 is formed on the bottom edge 20 of the C front cover 12.
.o •404 The bottom flap 19 extends some sixty millimetres beyond the line of the associated lateral edge 21 of the rear cover 13.
S The bottom flap 19 incorporates a laterally extending ao S fold 22 therein enabling the section of the bottom
C
flap 19 outwardly thereof to be folded inwardly.
As depicted in Figure 2, the lateral edge 15b of the end flap 15 aligns with the fold 22 in the bottom flap 19.
6 The arrangement provides that the end flap 15 can be folded inwardly as aforesaid and the bottom flap 19 folded inwardly over the lower section 15c of the end flap 15 and be attached thereto by a suitable adhesive or other means, the flaps thus combining to form a pocket 23.
As shown in Figure 3, with folding of the file 10 on the spine fold 11 it will be seen that the bottom of the pocket 23 extends clear of the associated lateral ^10 edge 21 of the rear cover 13.
This projecting section 23a can thus be utilised to display identifying insignia or other similar matter to facilitate filing in various filing structures.
S Preferably a similar identifying projection 13a is provided at the end edge of the rear cover 13.
The end identifying extension 13a is preferably some ten millimetres in width and extends from adjacent the o0 corner some one third or other part-distance along the edge on a suitably pronounced position.
It will be recognised by those skilled in the art that changes may be made to the above-described embodiment of the invention without departing from the broad invention concept thereof.
.7 7 K It is understood, therefore that this invention is not limited to the particular embodiment disclosed, but is intended to cover all modifications which are within the scope and spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
