FOR OFFICE USE: Class Int. Class 4 Application Number: PI5955 Lodged: 17 December 1987 p4 Accepted: Published: Priority: Related Art: Name and Address of Applicant: Hunter Wire Products Limited Macquarie Road Warners Bay New South Wales 2282
AUSTRALIA
NOT KNOWN Actual Inventor: Address for Service: Spruson Ferguson, Patent Attorneys, Level 33 St Martins Tower, 31 Market Street, Sydney, New South Wales, 2000, Australia Complete Specification for the invention entitled: A Screen Clamp Assembly The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us :56 19/12/E884 5815/2 P.YI- i.l:iYi~-~ l The present invention relates to industrial screens and more particularly to an assembly to retain an industrial screen panel fixed to a supporting structure.
Currently available methods of fixing screen panels in position are generally complex and require considerable time to dismantle to enable the screen panel to be easily removed and replaced.
It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate the abova disadvantage.
There is disclosed herein a screen panel support assembly comprising a support structure including a plurality of support bars arranged to engage the periphery of a screen panel, at least one clamp bar to extend along the periphery of the screen panel so that at least a portion of the S panel is sandwiched between at least one of the support bars and the clamp bar, and wedge means to move the clamp bar into clamping -R.4-G-with the screen panel and to retain the clamp bar in its clamping position, said tell wedge means including a reaction surface fixed relative to the support structure and a wedge member located between the reaction surface and said clamp bar, with said wedge member having a wedge surface to contact said reaction surface, said reaction surface and said -e&ffsurface extending longitudinally of said clamp bar and defining an acute angle with respect S thereto so that upon movement of said wedge member in a predetermined direction said wedge member moves said clamp bar into clamping engagement with said panel.
A preferred form of the present invention will now be described by S 25 way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a screen panel and support assembly therefor; Figure 2 is a schematic side elevation of the screen panel and support assembly of Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a schematic section side elevation of the screen panel of g Figure 2 sectioned along the line A-A.
In the accompanying drawings there is schematically depicted a screen panel 10 having a periphery 11 supported in a support assembly 12. The support assembly 12 includes a support structure 13 including a plurality of support bars 14 which are arranged to engage at least a portion of the periphery 11 of the panels The panels 10 are arranged in a clamped position with respect to the bars 14 by mcans of clamp bars 15. The clamp bars 15 extend generally 1 arallel to and are coextensive with respect to the support bars 14.
ilYLi -2- Fixed to the support structure 13 are brackets 16 each providing a reaction surface 17 which has its general direction of extension generally longitudinally of the bars 15, but defining an acute angle with respect thereto.
To retain the bars 15 in a clamping position with respect to the panels 10, there is provided a plurality of wedge members 18 which have a surface 19 engaging the upper surface 20 of the bars 15. The surfaces 19 and 20 define an acute angle transverse of the bars The wedge members 18 also have an upper surface 21 which engage the reaction surfaces 17. The reaction surfaces 17 and surface 21 define an acute angle with respect to the bars In operation of the above described support assembly 12, the screen panels 10 are placed in position resting on the bars 14. Thereafter the bars 15 are placed on top of the screen panels 10 and the wedge members 18 moved longitudinally along the bars 15 so as to be wedged between the brackets 16 and the bars 15. This action then moves the clamping bars into a clamping relationship with respect to the screen panels DG:0908t

Claims (2)

  1. 3. The support assembly of Claim 2 wherein the force transmitting surface of each wedge lies within a plane intersecting at an acute angle, a plane within which the wedge surface of the wedge means is located.
  2. 4. The support assembly of any one of Claims 1, 2 or 3 in combinationii with a plurality of the screen panels, and wherein said panels are of a generally rectangular or square configuration with at least one of the clamp bars engaged with a longitudinal edge of the panel. A screen panel and support assembly therefor, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
