Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and to an information system (3) for transferring customer specific information recorded on identity cards (91) onto new identity cards (61, 91). According to this method, information is recorded by an information system (3) into memory spaces allocated to the customers in a central data bank (36) and further transferred onto new identity cards (61, 91). The information system (3) detects customer specific information directly from identity cards (91) in mobile devices (9) using short special messages transmitted through a radio-telephone network (8), or said specific information is managed by certain customers using Internet services and is further transmitted to the information system. The specific information can also be detected by the information system (3) using a document reading unit (5) for reading information provided on forms (41) sent by the customers. The information system (3) then transfers the customer specific information using short special messages through a radio-telephone network (8) onto the new identity cards (91) in the mobile devices (9), or downloads said information onto the new identity cards (91) using an identity-card programming device (7).
