Abstract

The invention relates to a method for producing pipe insulation elements (1) from mineral fibres, according to which the mineral fibres are configured in the usual manner as a rockwool non-woven (13) which forms a primary non-woven (37) which in a partial area is compressed to form a secondary non-woven in such a way that the compressed area of the primary non-woven (37) at least along a lateral side of the rockwool non-woven presents a non-compressed area (15). The secondary non-woven is then folded in an undulating manner and hardened in this position before it is cut open along its central plane, which runs parallel to the large surfaces. The surfaces of the pipe half-shells created in this manner are machined in a chip-removing manner so as to obtain an external layer (2) which because of its higher apparent density is harder than an internal layer (3).
