00000 0 0 0 0 00 INK BALL PEN The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: [For a provisional specification you would use the words the invention is described in the following statement:] INK BALL PEN This inventioh is related to broaden the usage of the application number 200664 00: telescopic ink ball pen. This invention is able to converts oil ink ball pens into the liquid ink ball pen on the pen that has no cap or its pen tip is same direction with its pen clip.
As structure of a mechanical ball pen or a twist ball pen, is similar to the telescopic ball pen. It is no cap to cover pen tip and its pen tip is same direction to its clip, always point to ground either in writing or any time unused. They all are limit by oil type ink, can not apply to water base ink because air naturally stay at top of those liquid ink, will come out first if not reverse pen body. A liquid ink pen needs to reverse pen body to let air stay at top to bleed and needs a cap to seal pen tip to prevent spilling. Although there are lots of mechanical retract ball pens and twist ball pens S"in the market, but all are oil type ink only. Because of spilling ink problem if temperature or atmosphere changes.
*o V In order to let them use liquid ink, this invention use its pen tip in and out action to control valves to reduce pressure and change exhaust air direction to avoid contamination. Make them no need to reverse pen body as their structure limited.
To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show examples of the invention.

FIG 9 shows directly apply on pen body in a mechanical ball pen at unused state.
FIG 10 shows directly apply on pen body ink pen in a notch lock ball pen at writing state.
FIG 11 shows ink pen cartridge in a twist ball pen application at unused state.
FIG 12 shows ink pen cartridge in a twist ball pen application at writing state.
FIG 13 shows absorbable material ink pen cartridge in a twist ball pen at unused state.
FIG 14 shows absorbable material ink pen cartridge in a twist ball pen at writing state.

Refer to Fig. 1, an ink cartridge or insert, comprise a labyrinth groove bar 7 at top, a vacuum valve 5 in middle, a pen tip valve 3 on bottom, and a valve rod 6 which connects all valves. The labyrinth groove bar 7 use capillary action to absorb liquid ink in the gap between every thin plates and let only air pass through. A vacuum valve is for creating a sealed space to hold ink.
The pen tip valve 3 includes pen tip 1 and labyrinth groove 2. The valve rod 6 connects all valves to change their own open and closed accordingly. When moves valve rod down and overcome spring 9, cause the vacuum valve from open become close. After vacuum valve closed, then the pen tip valve from closed state start to open till valve rod reaches to its end position as Fig. 2 shows. If release valve rod, spring 9 pull rod back, close both pen tip orifice and air orifice. After they have closed, then vacuum valve opened till valve rod stopped by seat 8. The hollow valve rod is for offset valve rod moving displacement 13.
When writing, The vacuum valve 5 closed to create vacuum in vacuum chamber 12, holding ink 00• in the chamber and open pen tip valve 3 let vacuum chamber ink, by ink weight and capillary action, flow to pen tip for writing. The lost volume will be filled by air from top labyrinth groove feed bar 7 through a duct 4 to bottom labyrinth groove 2 into vacuum chamber. This will clean the ink deposit in both labyrinth grooves. The sealed plug 10 is for refilling ink when empty.
If temperature or air pressure change, on unused state: refer to Fig. 1, the air in the ink chamber .e 11 automatic stay at top and exhaust through top labyrinth groove 7. The pressure is balanced all .the time. On writing state: refer to Fig. 2, The expansion air from vacuum chamber 12 go through ee" 0bottom labyrinth groove and pass a tiny duct 4 then to top labyrinth groove 7 and exhaust. The ink chamber 11, Due to air stays at top, will exhaust by itself. The labyrinth groove capillary action absorbs any ink and let only air out. Because whole cartridge has only one outlet, inside vacuum and labyrinth groove will keep ink from spilling even on reverse pen body condition.
In order to fit into the different needs on different pens applications, Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 shows: 1.
The pen tip connects with valve rod. The pen slide valve 14 moves tip in and out, same time open and close with pen tip valve gate 15. Also these can be combined as one valve as Fig. 9 shows.
2. In order to simplify the structure, the vacuum valve may move up together with top labyrinth groove bar 7 as one unit or move down with the pen tip valve 3 as one unit. 3. The top labyrinth groove may close its vent during unused state and will open to balance pressure before tip valve opens. 4. Without any cartridge, apply the cartridge inside structures directly into inside of a ball pen as Fig. 9 shows. 5. Although the valves shown in figures are spool types, they can be any other types, shapes or forms of same effect valves that simply let ink or air be passed or be blocked. Like a flat plate cover a flat hole as Fig. 4 shows, or a taper plug plugs in a taper hole.
6. If the valve orifice is too small to pass the ink, there will be some small parallel plates on valve rod. By capillary action to force ink pass through as Fig. 6 shows.
Fig. 7 shows the ink cartridge applies in mechanical ball pen at unused state. By pushing sliding carousel 19 to move valve rod 6 down and change valves to writing state. At valve rod reach to end, whole cartridge body will be pushed down to show pen tip out. After sliding carousel 19 reaches locking position on stationary carousel 20, pen tip still stays out for writing as Fig. 8 shows. If retract, push again to release mechanical mechanism. The spring 17 pushes whole cartridge back at same time retracts pen tip, till stop by seat 18. The valve rod is retracted by spring 9 till reaches to final stop, and all valves will be reset back as unused state as Fig. 7 shows.
Fig. 9 shows directly apply inside of a ball pen in notch locking ball pen type. The pen tip is part of valve rod. By pushing action on notch lock 21, valve rod move down to change valves state to writing state, and at notch in locking position the pen tip will show up for writing as part of shows. When retract, release the notch lock 21, spring 9 retracts pen tip and reset valve rod back to unused state as Fig. 9 shows. This is same to apply in mechanical ball pen as Fig. shows.
Fig. 11 shows the ink cartridge applies in twist ball pen. By spring 9, the valve rod 6 will stay still with upper twist part 22 all the time. When twist bottom part 23, moves the spline 24 containing S ink cartridge down to change valve to writing state. At end of twist action, pen tip show up for writing as Fig. 12 shows. Reverse twist direction on bottom part 23, the spline containing cartridge will move up to retract pen tip. At end of twist action, all valves will be changed to unused state as Fig. 11 shows.
This invention also can apply to absorbable material pen like marker pens. Although these kind pens won't leak ink, but still need to seal both vent and pen tip at unused state and open them at writing state. If vent not sealed during unused state, it is unsure to use the pen because its life span will be unpredictable due to ink volatile. If pen tip not been sealed and only close air vent at S".i unused state, the expansion air from any reason will push ink out from pen tip and contaminate clothes. Refer to Fig. 13 Due to absorbable material, there is no need on vacuum valve and the labyrinth groove, so this type comprise absorbable material, an air inlet valve 25, a pen tip valve 26 with pen tip and a valve rod 6. Fig. 15 shows the pen tip valve separates its pen tip portion, let pen tip portion connect with valve rod 6 and slides with pen tip valve. So when applies inside of a pen, the pen tip show up for writing when valve rod moves to writing state, and the pen tip is retracted when valve rod 6 reset to unused state. To prevent inside pressure press ink out from tip, air vent valve need be opened to balance pressure before tip valve can be opened when writing.
Refer to Fig. 13 the absorbable material cartridge applies on twist pen type on unused state. The pen tip is part of pen tip valve 26. By spring 9, the valve rod 6 will stay still with upper twist part 22 all the time. When twist bottom part 23, moves the spline 24 together with cartridge down to change valve to writing state, As soon as cartridge move down, the air vent valve 25 will be opened to balanced pressure immediately before tip valve 26 can be opened. When tip valve reach to it final open position, the pen tip come out as Fig. 14 shows in writing state.
Refer to Fig. 15 the application in absorbable material in a cartridge on a notch lock ball pen at unused state. The pen tip is part of valve rod 6. By pushing action on notch lock 21, valve rod move down to change valves state to writing state. As soon as push valve rod 6, air will be balanced immediately by opening air vent valve 25 then the tip valve 27 can be opened. At notch in locking position the pen tip will show up for writing as Fig. 16 shows. Fig. 16 also shows absorbable material and valves that directly apply on inside of a pen body. This is also the same to apply in a mechanical ball pen.
