ORIGINAL
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT INVENTION TITLE UNBOUNDED MULTIPLIERS The following statement is a full description of this invention including the an instance of a game performing the invention:- Background of the Invention The present invention relates to slot machines also known as poker machines and which will be referred to hereinafter by the generic term "gaming machines".
In particular, the invention provides an improvement to a game played on such a gaming machine.
Description of the Prior Art Gaming machines have been well known and popular in New South Wales for many years. Substantial money has been wagered on these machines.
Traditional gaming machines made use of spinning reels and pay lines. These games typically had three reels with symbols on the outer surface parallel with the axis. The reels could be viewed through a window allowing a few symbols on each reel to be visible. Traditionally there would be one line across the window and pays would be awarded for sequences of like symbols coinciding with this line.
Players who regularly play gaming machines, quickly tire of particular games and it is therefore necessary for manufacturers of gaming machines to come up with either innovative game features that add interest to the games, or provide new *•**games in order keep players amused and willing to continue playing gaming machines.
With considerable growth in the gaming machine market, manufacturers face intense competition supplying product to the various venues. The more successful game machines generate increased revenue for the venues, thus the venue will pay close attention to the popularity of various games with their patrons.
Gaming Machines have progressed in complexity recently. There are pays for scatter symbols that do not have to coincide with lines. There are up to twenty lines played at the same time. Many Gaming Machines now have free game features whereby a sequence of games are played, without any wager, upon a given winning sequence of symbols, called the trigger.
Some free game features offer an unbounded number of free games due to the allowance of a retrigger, i.e. the triggering sequence is allowed to award further free games even when it occurs during a free game. However, the pays within these games do not increase. The object of the present invention is to allow the pay scale to rise with the increase in free games. Thus providing an improved gaming machine.
Summary of the Invention The present invention is applicable to video gaming machines in which the display means comprises of a video simulation of a set of rotatable reels, each carrying a plurality of symbols. These rotatable reels will not necessarily be of the same length.
The present invention consists of a free game feature that continues until a particular terminating symbol, or combinations of terminating symbols occur.
Such a sequence is not new to Gaming Machines. However, if the free games are numbered, the first number 1, the second number 2, etc and wins in each free game multiplied by that free game number the possible win on a particular free game rises without bounds. It is this ability to create a pay schedule that increases in proportion to free games that is unique to this invention.
Brief Description of the Drawings Specific characteristics of the invention will now be described by use of examples with reference to the accompanying figures which Figure 1 shows a gaming machine having a video simulation of a rotating reel display adapted to play a game incorporating the present invention; Figure 2 shows a screen display for the gaming machine as shown in Figure 1.
Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments In the following detailed description, the methodology of the embodiments will be described, and it is to be understood that this methodology will be introduced into a gaming machine by means of appropriate programming.
The first embodiment of the invention is illustrated in Figure 1 which shows the .i slot machine having a video display screen 2 showing a plurality of rotatable reels with various symbols on each reel 3. The top box display 1 carries the artwork which displays the various winning combinations and details the rules of S the game.
Figure 2 shows the possible configuration of the video display. The video display will comprise of a three by five display. This will relate to three rows and five columns. The columns represent the five different reels developed for the gaming machine.
oooo The symbols which are present on the 'reels' of the gaming machine may include the following 0. ACE-A KING K QUEEN
Q
JACK J TEN S: NINE- 9 SPECIAL SYMBOL- SS The game will trigger a feature or free games sequence which could arise from special combination of Special Symbols (SS) appearing onscreen. The Special Symbols that appear on the reels will become Special Terminating Symbols during the free games. The free games continue until the occurrence of a Special Terminating Symbol or combinations of terminating symbols occur. As the free games continue they are numbered starting with number 1 and incrementing one at a time, this number can be called the free game number. All wins in each free game are multiplied by the corresponding free game number.
For example, wins in the second free game are doubled, wins in the third free game are tripled, wins in the fourth free game are quadrupled, etc.
