Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT INFANT SAFETY WRAP (ISW) The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method ofperforming it known to me: COMS ID No: SBMI-02856326 Received by IP Australia: Time 12:08 Date 2006-03-03 03/03/2006 12:09 +61-2-99947300 JETSET DEE WHY PAGE 07/11
NO
0 0 INFANT SAFETY WRAP (ISW) Since ancient times newborn babies and small infants have been settled to sleep by 00 wrapping or swaddling with blankets. Swaddling (or wrapping) is an age-old tfl technique used for keeping an infant warm and secure. The swaddling technique stops the infant from flailing their arms about and startling themselves, hence the Sinfants should settle and sleep better. To achieve this it is recommended that the Sarms of the infant be snug, and the legs to have flexing room.
INO
o Even with the advancement of technology, parents and caregivers still use this Straditional and time honoured technique to settle their infants. Technology has improved the way in which we transport our infants, most notably with child restraints for motor vehicles, however, currently we are unable to safely restrain an infant in these car restraints while they are securely wrapped or swaddled.
This invention has been specifically devised to allow an infant to remain comfortable, settled and secure in their wrap while being relocated (ie; from a crib, etc) to a child car restraint or any other method of infant transport, such as a pram and infan shopping trolleys. Most importantly the Infant Safety Wrap allows unhindered access to the release mechanism of the car restraint or pram harness for immediate release.
Using cotton based fabric for optimum breath ability (however, any soft and flexible fabric can be used) the Infant Safety Wrap (ISW) works by securing each arm of the infant in an internal triangular pocket. The ISW has soft elastic holding the wrap firmly atop the infants chest in a shape with the joining point from the infant's stomach, around the back of the neck returning to the top fastener at the infant's stomach. The infant is unable to push their arnn to the opposite side of their chest and therefore the ISW can be used in accordance with the child restraint manufacturer's design regulations and safety standards, as the re.training straps mn atop the elastic formed shape from the infant's shoulders.
The infant's stomach is supported by soft elastic around the body holding the wrap in a comfortable position with the restraining straps running atop of the wrap along the infant's waist/stomach. The lower half of the wrap has one pocket for the legs (design 1) with an opening in the centre, between the legs, to allow the restraint to be placed through the wrap. The ISW can also be made without the leg pocket for vus in warmer conditions 'figure design 2. This model has the same design details as the original model but has no leg pocket and is designed with soft elastic around each leg hole, with the wrap joined together between the infants upper legs.

O
2 The invention will be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention.
00 tr) Figure 1 is a view from the rear of the ISW with the infants mid-section supported by soft/firm elastic and the cut-out hole which the release mechanism part of the child restraint passes through.
IO) Figure 2 is a view from the front of the ISW with the neckline running parallel to the 0 child restraint belt from the infunCs shoulders in a shape down to where the o release mechanism closes. The internal arm pockets are in the top front sections of Sthe ISW. The waist elastic runs parallel to the child restraint belt across the infant's mid-section.
Figure 3 is a view from the side of the ISW showing the elastic supporting the infant's mid-section and holding the arms securely (not tightly) in the top front sections of the ISW.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 are views from the r ear, front and side respectively, of the ISW design for use in warm weather.
The ISW was designed with emphasis on utilizing an age-old sleeping technique in a completely safe manner whilst transporting an infant, as the child safety restraint harness remains fitted correctly and in full view and access at all times.
