Page lof7, 2of7, 3of7 and 6of7 Invention Title: Pallet Board Remover The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing known to me.
Description: This invention is in the field of pallet repair and recycling for apparatus which can remove any board from a pallet and clean up the remaining stubble and fasteners. To remove the boards that are not at the end of a pallet by other methods generally results in damage to neighbouring boards due to the lack of access space. This invention allows any selected board to be removed with out effecting any neighbouring boards and greatly reduces the labour input. This invention incorporates the apparatus of a pivot plate which assists with the complete removal of damaged boards. Once the board has been removed then this invention incorporates an apparatus for stubble removal which cleans up the remaining fasteners and remnants of the board greatly reducing the cost of repair. This invention allows the recycling of the board to be used in other repairs. The stubble remover may be one or more units on the apparatus.
Page 1 of7 Field of the invention: This invention relates generally to an apparatus used in the repair and recycling of pallets.
This invention relates to considerable labor and time saving in the effect of this operation by the utilization of the apparatus. This invention is envisaged in the application with manual labor to position the pallet for removal of the lead board. It should not be limited to the use of manual labor to position the pallet for the lead board removal as this function could just as easily be performed by other means.
Page 2 of 7 Summary of the Invention.
This invention responds to the problems presented during repair of pallets by providing apparatus to effectively remove any board that needs replacing to suitably repair the pallet. Traditional methods of board removal have been to use operator strength and manual methods. These methods have led to problems such as, operator fatigue and injury, damage to the pallet structure, destruction of the removed lead board and long process time. Normal methods of pallet repair have led to problems of cleaning up the mounting surface for the replacement board. During removal of the board some of the fasteners remain in the pallet which inhibits the suitable mounting of the replacement board. A feature of this machine is that it incorporates a stubble remover which traverses the pallet cleaning up the mounting surface of the bearers or blocks for the replacement board. This invention proposes to have a pallet placed on the support rails orientated so that the pallet is moved forward over the board removal arms. The pivot plate is activated so that is in a position to opposite that of the removal arms. The removal arms are then activated to force the board off in a direction away from the pallet. The broken board can pivot about the pivot plate to effect complete removal of the board. Once the removal arms have retracted back the pivot plate also retracts out of the way After the pivot plate has retracted back the stubble cutter then traverses the area where the pallet was removed from and making the mounting surface suitable for board replacement.
In another embodiment the pivot plate may not necessarily pivot into position but may slide in a generally linear manner. The stubble cutter maybe more than one unit to effect the cleaning up of the replacement board mounting surface.
Page 3 of 7 Detailed Description The pallet board remover operates by positioning a pallet 8 on the top of the pallet support rails 1 so that the board removal arms 6 can be motioned against the board resulting in its removal from the pallet. Before the removal arms are activated the pivot plate 7 is raised to a point parallel to the board to assist in the full removal of damaged boards. The removal arms 6 are driven by an actuator at the other end of the arm support beam 5 which is attached to the lever arm 4. After the board has been removed from the pallet the removal arms 6 are retracted and the pivot plate 7 moved out of the way. This then allows the stubble remover 3 to traverse on the guideway 2 and clean up any reamining fasteners or stuble from the removed board.
In another embodiment the pivot plate 7 may slide into position rather than pivot but still leave access after removal of the board for stubble remover 3 to clean up the mounting surface.
In another embodiment the stubble remover 3 may be more than one unit to improve production process time and throughput.
