Abstract

A high pressure phenolic resin is impingement mixed with a low pressure acid stream in a mixing head 1 to form a phenolic insulating foam reactant mixture. The mixing head has two oppositely directed high pressure inlet ports 2, each connected to a phenolic resin stream at a pressure of at least 140 bar. Acid at a pressure of about 3 bar is drawn into the mixing head 1 through an inlet port 6. The mixing head 1 may be mounted on a lay-down traversing poker 10 to form a phenolic insulating body such as a composite panel.
