Abstract
The present invention relates to methods and means for estimating and distributing the load in a cellular radio communication system with a pool of MSC/VLR's connected to an access system with control nodes. The load in the MSC/VLR's (203-205) are determined with the help of the occupancy count of the VLR's (204b), i.e. the number of registered mobile stations in the respective VLR. A low number of registered mobile stations indicates both a low current load and a low future load. The control nodes (207) distribute new mobile stations to the least loaded MSC/VLR in the pool by using the occupancy count of the corresponding VLR.
