Abstract

The aim of the invention is to recycle meltable, foamed synthetic material, especially expanded polystryrol (EPS). In a disintegration step, the collected synthetic material is disintegrated into edged chips in a transportable disintegration unit (5) by means of electrically heatable cutting grids (16). Said unit is operated at the respective collecting point by means of a current generator (3, 3') that is operated by an internal combustion engine (2, 14). The resulting cutting gases are supplied to the combustion air of the internal combustion engine (2, 14) which operates the current generator and are burned together with the combustion air. The waste can thus be disintegrated at the collecting points without the resulting chips loosing the closed outer skin thereof and without fearing environmental damages due to the occurring cutting gases. Disintegration increases transport capacity.
