Abstract

An identity card, e.g. a cheque card or credit card, usually has a space in which the card user writes his signature when the card is issued. A weak point, as far as manipulations of the cards are concerned, has long been that the signature space could be eliminated and replaced by a counterfeit signature space. According to the invention, in order that such manipulations are easily recognisable and forgeries are consequently made more difficult, the security typography (guilloche print) which anyway covers the area surrounding the signature space is extended on without transition over the signature space also. If the counterfeiting of a signature space provided with such security typography is itself extremely difficult, it is practically impossible to arrange the security typography in such a manner that it passes continuously from the signature space into the area surrounding the signature space. <IMAGE>
