Abstract

A deep-drawn can with a stepped edge adjoining the top of the cylindrical can body is produced by first deep-drawing, in a first draw and, if appropriate, one or more further draws, a cup which has a plane flange and whose internal diameter and height correspond to the internal diameter and height of the can body of the finished deep-drawn can. Using a holding-down tool acting on the flange, a part of the flange is then deformed to give the stepped edge, while leaving a residual flange, by means of a stepped-edge drawing ring with a drawing orifice whose diameter approximately corresponds to the external diameter of the can body, and with a stepped-edge recess which is provided at the inlet end thereof and is formed with a diameter greater than that of the drawing orifice, and by means of a stepped-edge stamp with a stamp part corresponding to the internal diameter of the can body, and with a stepped-edge part of greater diameter.
