Abstract

The invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for shrinking a plastic hood around a palletised load (2). Free shrinkage of the plastic hood (8), which is converted into a hot plastic state by the application of heat, would lead either to adhesive bonding with the packaging material, or cause damage to the plastic hood as it is blown on by being placed against edges of the load on the one hand or a heat source (1) on the other hand. To eliminate this risk, the invention provides a locally limited suction of the plastic hood (8) in the region upstream and downstream of a local heat-application zone (10), so that the plastic hood assumes a corrugated form which passes over the entire plastic hood (8) with the heat-application zone (10) and the lift-off regions (7-28), so that said hood finally shrinks uniformly during cooling without adhesive bonding with the load (2). <IMAGE>
