Abstract

1. Device (1) for joining the ends (4, 5) of at least one sheet (3), in particular a drying sheet to be used in papermaking, to form a continuous strip, comprising a support bar (2), of which the length is greater than the width of the strip, and retaining means to hold two sheet ends on the support bar (2) during the joining operation, such that engaging elements (8, 9) anchored on the front edges (6, 7) of the sheet ends (4, 5) along an engaging pin (1, 11) parallel to the respective front edge can engage in one another and be locked in this engaged position by a stop element (12), characterized in that the support bar (2) is fixed, and in that the retaining means comprise, on the fixed support bar (2), two pairs of first parallel connecting means (13, 14 and 15, 16) arranged symmetrically on either side of a plane (17) which, once the joining operation is complete, passes through the strip along a line perpendicular to its longitudinal direction, all these first connecting means being mutually identical and the distance (d, D) between them and the said plane (17) remaining constant, and, at each sheet end (4, 5), at least one second connecting means (18-21) capable of cooperating with the first connecting means (13, 14 and 15, 16) of the support bar (2) so as to form a detachable connection with them, each second connecting means (18-21) being arranged parallel to the adjacent front edge (6, 7) of the sheet end at a constant distance (d, D) from the respective engaging pin (10, 11), which distance is equal to the distance (d, D) between one of the first connecting means (13, 14 and 15, 16) of one of the abovementioned two pairs and said plane (17) of symmetry.
