. Verfahren zur Erzielung eines dauerhaften, ergiebigen und durch Zusätze bekannter Art in der konservierenden Kraft verstärkten Belages von Benzoesäure auf Papier.
Im nachfolgendem wird ein Verfahren beschrieben, welches in erster Linie darauf abzielt, Benzoesäure in deren Anwendung als Konservierungsstoff besser und in grösseren Mengen an Papier binden zu können, als dies durch einfache Lösung dieser Säure in Wasser oder AlkoholGlyzeringemischen erreichbar wäre. Benzoesäure ist einerseits in solchen Lösungsmittel nur in Mengen löslich, welche bloss einen unzureichenden Niederschlag der Säure am Papiere ermöglichen, andrerseits haftet die Säure nach dem Verdunsten des Lösungsmittels so lose am Papiere an, dass dieselbe leicht abstäubt. Diesem Nachteile wirkt die Umwandlung der Säure in ein Benzoesäureglyzerid entgegen, welches erhalten wird, wenn man 100 Gewichtsteile Glyzerin auf go0 C erwärmt und 24 bis 92 Gewichtsteile Benzoesäure einträgt.
Das hierdurch entstehende, ölige Produkt erstarrt zu einer festen Masse von kristallischem Gefüge, welche bei goo wieder schmilzt. Dem flüssigen Glyzeride werden noch die konservierende Kraft verstärkende, weiters den Geschmack verändernde Zusätze bekannter Art, wie Parachlorbenzoesaures Natron, Kochsalz, Essigsäure u. dgl., beigegeben. Ein Ausführungsbeispiel enthält 48 Gewichtsprozent Benzoesäure und einen Zusatz von Essigsäure. Das Glyzerid wird in flüssigem Zustande oder in einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel, wie Alkohol, gelöst, am Papiere aufgetragen, wodurch ein gleichartiger, gut anhaftender Überzug, dessen Stärke beliebig gewählt werden kann, am Papiere entsteht.
