Haarnadel.

Hairpin.
The invention relates to a hairpin which is to be used as a replacement for the hairpins previously made of celluloid.
The numerous accidents that have already been caused by celluloid hair ornaments due to the easily flammable celluloid are known and have given rise to numerous attempts to produce non-flammable or flame-retardant celluloids and substitutes. If, on the one hand, it has not yet been possible to reduce the flammability of the celluloid masses, then on the other hand, the non-flammable substitute masses of celluloid, such as gallalith and the like. Due to their high production costs, are not suitable for displacing cheap celluloid products.
The aim of the invention is to produce hairpins, for which celluloid is primarily a cheap production material, from wooden wire, which after shaping by a lacquer coating, optionally after previous coloring, a smooth surface and the appearance of celluloid or the through the latter, imitated raw materials (bone, tortoiseshell, amber, etc.) are granted.
Wooden wire made from inferior types of wood, such as walnut and hornbeam, but also waste wood is suitable for making the needles. The wooden wire is cut to the appropriate length, impregnated at the bending point with oil or oil mixture and bent in the usual way with the application of heat (Fig. I); Before or after bending, the wire can be given any other shape; edged wire can be used and this can be provided with a twist (Fig. 2) or the legs can be corrugated (Fig. 3). It is also possible to wind the wire into a complete loop (Fig. 4) which, if desired, can be used as a support for an ornament.
