Process for cleaning the sugar solutions of raw sugar factories and refineries from non-sugar substances.

The present invention relates to a method for cleaning sugar solutions from non-sugar substances and consists in adding a metal sulphate or a mixture of sulphates (z. B. copper sulphate, magnesium sulphate, alumina sulphate, iron sulphate etc.) and then a metal or a A mixture of metals in the finest distribution and of such a nature that it is mixed with the sulfuric acid from the sulfates used, with their bases precipitating out. s metal or as oxide or as oxide or hydrate, forms new sulfates, such as. B. iron powder, aluminum powder, magnesium powder, zinc dust, etc., whereupon the bases are precipitated from the newly formed sulfates by alkaline earth metal hydrates.

According to the method, for example, the usually limed, saturated and filtered thin or thick juice, green syrups, etc., is admixed with the copper sulfate in an equivalent amount to the alkalis present and the mixture with such an amount
 EMI1.1
and to form zinc sulfate. A black precipitate separates out with evolution of hydrogen and the formation of zinc sulphate. If the sugar liquid is filtered off after completion of the decomposition, the copper with the broken down organic low-sugar substances is obtained on the filter. If the filtrate has enough lime, barite
 EMI1.2
is partially soluble, so must. in order to excrete plaster, the sugar liquid to at least 30 be. be thickened.

If the same is filtered, plaster of paris remains excreted on the filter.

If you have used acidic barite or acidic strontian for the removal of plaster, insolubles are formed
 EMI1.3
and spun out hot. The process, processed in the above way, has recently resulted in granulated sugar.
