It has proven to be particularly advantageous, for example, to introduce the barium or strontium oxide into a thin-walled tube or tube made of a material that evaporates easily during sintering and to simultaneously press this filled tube or tube with the tungsten powder. It is also possible to arrange several souls in this way as oxides or as metal rods or wires made of emission-promoting substances in the tungsten electrode, whereby z. B. the weld seam width can also be significantly influenced.

Tests have shown that with direct current welding the focal point is fixed at the tip of the tungsten electrode and is so small that the effectiveness of the control metal or oxide as an emission-promoting substance is particularly evident at this point. Since the emitting substance is located at the point of contact during the direct current ignition process due to the production according to the invention, in addition to the advantages already described, the ignitability is also promoted quite considerably. This makes it possible to add the emission-promoting material to the tungsten in a significantly lower percentage that was previously considered impossible by experts than was previously required in the form of admixture or sheathing.

However, even with AC welding, the high-frequency ignition process is triggered much more reliably than was previously possible. In addition, the tungsten electrodes produced according to the invention achieve a significantly greater heat concentration, which means that the weld seam can not only be produced more quickly and narrower, but its appearance and structure are also significantly improved.
