Material for grinding and dressing tools
The invention relates to a material made from a comminuted sintered alloy containing boron carbide which, due to its high hardness, is particularly suitable for use in grinding and dressing tools. The alloy consists of 30-80% boron carbide and one or more high-melting metals, such as in particular titanium, tungsten and tantalum, it being possible for these metals to be present individually or in groups. There is also the option of replacing the three metals mentioned in whole or in part with chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, niobium, uranium or zirconium. These metals can also be present individually or in groups.
These hard alloys are crushed to the desired grain size and in this state embedded in any carrier material. The carrier mass can consist of hard metal, metal alloys, iron, oxide ceramics or the like, as well as synthetic resin in a manner known per se. In this way it is possible to manufacture grinding wheels and dressing tools.
The hard metal for the carrier mass can consist of carbides of high-melting metals, such as tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, molybdenum carbide, etc., and a low-melting auxiliary metal such as cobalt. As metal alloys are u. a. suitable: an iron alloy with 70% iron and 30% nickel; a nickel alloy with 75% nickel and 25% molybdenum; Tungsten alloys with 80-90% tungsten, the remainder copper and nickel. If iron is used as the carrier mass, the procedure can also be such that a porous sintered iron skeleton is produced, in which the grains of the sintered alloy containing boron carbide are embedded. This skeleton itself is then compacted by incorporating a suitable metal or alloy.
In addition to these substances, synthetic resin or oxide-ceramic masses, like any other mass used for grinding wheels, can also serve as a carrier mass.
For example, the following combination has proven to be suitable as a dressing tool: A boron carbide sintered alloy consisting of 70% boron carbide and 30% titanium metal is applied
